Join the Cobb Chamber for the final South Area Council of the year on November 3 where we will sit down with Sheriff Craig Owens as he reflects on his first year in office and shares what changes he has made within the department.
In November 2020, Owens made history by becoming the first African-American elected to be sheriff of Cobb County. Within the first six months of his term, Sheriff Owens and the Recruiting Team hired 102 deputies and filled 36 civilian positions. The Recruiting Team is actively out in the community, meeting residents and helping them learn what the Sheriff's Office does every day to protect and serve.
Sheriff Owens has more than 30 years of service to his local community and the United States military. Following family tradition, he enlisted in the Army upon graduating high school. After four years in the military, he joined the Cobb County Police Department and transitioned his military service to the Army Reserves, with a stint in the Army National Guard. He retired from the Army Reserves in the summer of 2020, achieving the rank of command sergeant major. He is an Mableton resident, where he lives with his wife and spends time with his family.
Additionally, the Citizen of the Year Awards for Austell, Mableton, and Powder Springs will be presented at this event.
