Geopolitical risk is named as one of the biggest risk management concerns for 2024 by family offices in the 'The Evolving Risk Landscape for Family Offices – A Survey Report' which provides responses from over 200 family offices from more than 30 countries. The report highlights that family offices have prioritized investment, financial and legal risks, neglecting other risks, particularly dynamic and unknown risks such as emerging tech, geopolitical and natural disasters. Edward Marshall, Dentons' Global Head of Family Office, said: “This analysis identifies best practices and solutions to protect assets, interests and, most importantly, the family. What are the key takeaways for in-house legal teams from our recent ESG webinars? Our first session explored climate and ESG-related litigation trends worldwide. An impressive 69% of attendees, made up of General Counsel and in-house legal team members, are prioritizing mitigating this type of litigation for their organizations. In the second session, we delved into the future of ESG in supply and value chains. Among in-house lawyers, 59% identified ‘regulatory compliance’ as the primary driver for reviewing their organization’s global supply chain, while 14% emphasized doing the right thing. There are three remaining sessions which will focus on financing sustainability or impact, navigating the evolving ESG disclosure landscape and transitioning to net zero (risks and opportunities for corporates).
